Mangaluru: Popular Jewelry business chain Jos Alukkas on Saturday inaugurated its new showroom in Mangaluru on KS Rao road, here in the city.

DCP (L&O) Mangaluru Police Anshu Kumar IPS, inaugurated the new showroom with actors Prakash Thuminad and Sonal Monteiro attending the inaugural ceremony.

Managing Directors of Jos Alukkas Paul J Alukka, John Alukka and Varghese Alukka were also present during the ceremony.

As a part of inaugural offer, the showroom will gift a gold coin to customers who purchase gold jewelry worth Rs. 40, 000 or more. The customers will also get a 20% discount on diamonds and 7% discount on platinum jewelry.

The customers can also exchange their old 22 carat gold for BIS hall marked 916 gold jewelery or IGI certified diamond jewelery with additional benefits. In addition to these, one can get special discounts on wedding jewelery purchases and advance booking facilities for all their purchases for price protection, the company said.

The company further said with its monthly gold purchase plan, people with lower budgets can also afford to purchase gold.

Bengaluru (PTI): Seven people, including three children, were killed when the compound wall of a hospital collapsed here on Wednesday, police said.

The incident occurred in the Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital, they added.

When the heavy rains, coupled with strong winds, battered the area, the seven victims were taking shelter near the wall, which suddenly came down crashing, police further said. All seven people were killed on the spot, they added.

According to police sources, the victims were street vendors.

Police and emergency services personnel rushed to the spot with an earthmover to bring out the bodies from the debris with the help of residents.
