Kadaba: A female student of Alankar College in Kadaba, who was admitted to the hospital because of excessive headache reportedly passed away of suspected rabies virus infection in the hospital.

The deceased has been identified as Vinci Saramma (17), daughter of Varghese, residents of Kedila in Alankar village. She was a student of 2nd year PUC at the Kadaba Government Pre-University College.

On Thursday, Vinci had reportedly complained of a sudden, severe headache and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. As the headache did not subside and continued in its severity, she was later admitted to the Puttur private Hospital and thereafter transported to the Mangaluru District Hospital. However, the treatment proved to be ineffective and Vinci passed away late at night in the hospital, it is learned.

Reportedly, a mad dog had been sighted in the Alankar town vicinity near the house of the deceased 4 months ago. During that period, street dogs had reportedly attacked two individuals in the area as well. The domestic dog belonging to the deceased had also passed away due to rabies a few days ago.  It is being speculated that the Rabies virus may have spread from the pet dog at home to the deceased young girl. The District Health Department has informed that more tests would be conducted in this regard.
