Kadaba, May 12: The deletion of the names of five members of a family from the voters list came to light when they have been to polling station to cast their votes at Kadaba. As a result, they could not vote on Saturday.

As soon as the news spread, workers of a political party said that because of the mistake done by some officials, the voters were deprived of their right and they should be given opportunity to vote.

But Alankar village accountant said that “As they have directions from the higher ups to delete the names of those who were not there in their residence for the last six months, from the voters list. This time, they cannot vote. Their names would be included in the voters list and next time, they could vote”, he added.

But irked by this development, a lady from the family asked ‘As to why their names were deleted from the list? I have ration card and Aadhar card. Moreover, we have never applied for deletion of our names from the voters list. How did you remove our names? Who has signed for this? I would complaint to the tahsildar and if I don’t get justice, I would go to court”, she warned.

ISLAMABAD: At least two more cases of poliovirus were reported in Pakistan, taking the number of infections to 52 so far this year, a report said on Friday.

“The Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the National Institute of Health has confirmed the detection of two more wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) cases in Pakistan," an official statement said.

The fresh infections — a boy and a girl — were reported from the Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.

“Genetic sequencing of the samples collected from the children is underway," the statement read. Dera Ismail Khan, one of the seven polio-endemic districts of southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, has reported five polio cases so far this year.

Of the 52 cases in the country this year, 24 are from Balochistan, 13 from Sindh, 13 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and one each from Punjab and Islamabad.

There is no cure for polio. Only multiple doses of the oral polio vaccine and completion of the routine vaccination schedule for all children under the age of five can keep them protected.
