Mangaluru: Kankanady police on Wednesday, busted a illegal sand smuggling attempt to Kerala, and seized sand and trucks that is estimated to be worth over Rs. 36,50,000/-
Four illegal sand laden trucks, were heading towards Kerala, from BC Road via Padil route, when the police team led by Kankandy police inspector Ashok P, stopped the vehicle and seized the illegal sands and trucks.
Drivers of three trucks have been detained while one driver managed to escape the scene.
The arrested drivers have been identified as Austin Miranda, Hasanabba and Biju, while the identity of the driver who escaped the scene is yet to be ascertained.
According to the reports, Austin and Hasanabba were driving trucks owned by themselves, Biju was driving truck owned by Abdul Rahman. Another truck is reportedly owned by Harish.
The seized items were handed over to the mines and geology department for further course of action.
Kankanady PSI Pradeep T. R., CCB PSI Kabbal Raj and other personnel of Kankanady police station were part of the operation.

Ranchi (PTI): Tribal icon Birsa Munda's great-grandson Mangal Munda, who was undergoing treatment at a hospital here after being injured in a road accident, died of "cardiovascular failure" on Friday, an official of the health facility said.
He was 45.
Mangal Munda breathed his last at 12.30 am at the state's apex health facility - Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences.
Munda sustained severe head injuries after he fell from the roof of a passenger vehicle in Jharkhand's Khunti district on November 25.
"Birsa Munda's kin Mangal Munda died of cardiovascular failure around 12.30 am. He was on a ventilator after being critically injured. We tried our best to save him but failed," RIMS Medical Superintendent Dr Hiren Birua told PTI.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's office, Union Health Minister JP Nadda and the Jharkhand Chief Minister's office were in touch with the RIMS authorities in connection with Munda's treatment.
