Mangaluru, May 15: what it can be called as the mirror effect of 2013 poll results in coastal Karnataka, BJP bagged seven seats out of eight restricting congress to just one seat. While in 2013 congress had emerged victorious in seven assembly seats BJP was limited to just one.
All the analysis and calculations went upside down on Tuesday as the counting of votes began at counting centers. Not only the party workers but also leaders of congress party were stunned by the outcome of this election.
U.T Khader, the only congress candidate from coastal Karnataka, who stood against the BJP wave in the region and succeeded, has said that his government's development works has reached the people of all sections. But the false propaganda has won in this election.
Mangaluru North congress candidate Moidin Bava blamed Hindutva wave for his defeat.
On the other hand, Rajesh Naik Ulippadi of BJP who has defeated Ramanatha Rai in Bantwal said that Rai's appeasing politics helped him win this election. He said that Rai has not done any developmental works and that is the main reason for his defeat. He further stated that this is the victory of the party and its workers.
BJP candidates, Harish Punja in Belthangady, Sanjeev Matandoor in Puttur, S.Angara in Sullia, Rajesh Naik in Bantwal, Vedavyas Kamath in Mangaluru South, Dr. Bharath Shetty in Mangaluru North and Umanath Kotian in Moodabidre emerged victorious.
Violation of prohibitory order
In the wake of vote counting the district authority had imposed prohibitory section from May 14 midnight till May 16 midnight. But the party workers violated this prohibitory order by taking out processions along with their winning candidates.
Dakshina Kannada DC Shashikanth Senthil had issued prohibitory orders that had prohibited people from gathering near counting centers, taking out celebratory processions and victory celebration. But party workers violated this order and indulged in victory celebration.

ISLAMABAD: At least two more cases of poliovirus were reported in Pakistan, taking the number of infections to 52 so far this year, a report said on Friday.
“The Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the National Institute of Health has confirmed the detection of two more wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) cases in Pakistan," an official statement said.
The fresh infections — a boy and a girl — were reported from the Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.
“Genetic sequencing of the samples collected from the children is underway," the statement read. Dera Ismail Khan, one of the seven polio-endemic districts of southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, has reported five polio cases so far this year.
Of the 52 cases in the country this year, 24 are from Balochistan, 13 from Sindh, 13 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and one each from Punjab and Islamabad.
There is no cure for polio. Only multiple doses of the oral polio vaccine and completion of the routine vaccination schedule for all children under the age of five can keep them protected.
