Kasaragod: In a shocking incident, three members of a family allegedly consumed acid, leading to their deaths in Ambalathara during the early hours of Thursday.
The deceased have been identified as Gopi (60), his wife Indira (57), and their son Ranjith (22). Another son, Rakesh, who is in a critical condition, has been admitted to Kannur Government Medical College Hospital.
According to police, the family reportedly ingested acid around 4 a.m. Neighbors rushed all four to the hospital, but three of them could not be saved.
Preliminary investigations suggest that financial distress may have driven the family to take the extreme step. Further details are awaited.

Latur (PTI): A minor girl was allegedly kidnapped and raped by an 18-year-old man in Latur, leading to the arrest of the main accused and owners of two cafes where the crime occurred on December 4, police said on Saturday.
Police traced the girl within hours of registering the complaint. The accused, identified as Rihan Gulab Shaikh, was arrested based on the girl's complaint. Two others are owners of two cafes where the crime occurred, police said.
Police registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), POCSO Act, and the Prevention of Atrocities Act, an official said.
