Udupi: Load of timber destroyed, truck damaged in fire due to tyre blast in Kaup
Kaup: A truck transporting timber on National Highway 66 caught fire after one of its tyres blasted near Uliyaragoli Kotalakatte here on Friday morning.
The mishap occurred near the office of Bicco here. The tyre blasted when the truck was driving down the highway and gave rise to a fire. The flames then spread to the timber stacked up in the truck, which fuelled the fire, said sources.
The police who learned of the fire immediately informed the fire brigade. The staff of the brigade rushed to the area and doused the flames.
The truck is learned to have been damaged badly due to the fire mishap, and half the logs in the vehicle have been destroyed.
Kaup Police have registered a case and are conducting an investigation.

Belthangady: The family of late Ramlan Ajhari rebuilt the house of the late Ramlan Ajhari in a program held by Dakshina Kannada District Janiyyatul Muallimin in the premises of Kajur Perdadi Ajmer Khaja Juma Mosque on Thursday. The handover was performed by Khazi Shaikhuna Twakha Ahmed of South Kannada District, Musliyar.
District Janiyyatul Muallimeen President Shansuddin Darimi Pammale Madannur presided over the function. District Janiyatul Muallimeen Secretary Muhammad Navi Mundole welcomed the guests. On this occasion, Engineer Muhammad Twahir Bangerakatte was honored for building a neat house.
