Mangaluru: The city Lokayukta Police have reportedly conducted a surprise inspection at the Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) office on Wednesday (March 13) evening, in the backdrop of complaints regarding delay in disposing of the files of public and the increasing role of middlemen in the office.

Reportedly, during the inspection, a significant amount of money was discovered in the possession of office officials and other individuals, however no satisfactory explanations were provided. In addition, a bag containing money was found within the office premises. It has also been learnt that the public has also complained about instances of corruption and harassment by officials within the office.

Additionally, numerous files that remained pending for extended periods without resolution were also found during the probe. There is evidence suggesting that officials were in communication with brokers via phone, facilitating the disposal of files. In this backdrop, Lokayukta Superintendent of Police C.A. Simon has confirmed that investigations into the network within the MUDA office are ongoing.

Mangaluru Lokayukta Deputy Superintendent of Police Chaluvaraju B, Dr. Gana P. Kumar, and Inspectors of Police Amanullah A and Suresh Kumar P and others were present during the raid.

Vilnius (AP/PTI): A DHL cargo plane crashed Monday morning near the Lithuanian capital.

The Lithuanian airport authority identified the aircraft as a “DHL cargo plane flying from Leipzig, Germany, to Vilnius Airport.”

It posted on the social platform X that city services including a fire truck were on site.

DHL Group, headquartered in Bonn, Germany, did not immediately return a call for comment.
