Ullal: The bodies of a couple were found near the Peelaru Panjandayana Daivasthana here on Thursday morning, with the police suspecting it to be a case of murder followed by suicide.

Shivananda Poojary, 55, seems to have strangulated his wife Shobha Poojary, 45, before hanging himself to death in the garden near their house in Peelaru, said the police.

Ullal Police have registered a case following a complaint filed by the couple’s elder son Karthik.

Shobha is learned to have gotten manure from a neighbour’s house at around 10 am on Thursday. At around 12 noon, Karthik called his parents. When they did not receive the call, he informed the neighbours of the matter. The neighbours reportedly visited the Poojarys and found Shobha lying dead in the bedroom and Shivananda’s body hanging from a tree in the garden.

Shivananda had been working as a painter, but had frequent quarrels with his wife over trivial issues. The police suspect him to have killed his wife and himself after such a fight over a paltry matter.

Ullal Police visited the house of Poojarys and are investigating the case.
