Mangaluru, November 13: Anti-rowdy squad police of the Mangaluru South Sub-Division arrested the accused who have planned to rob a jewelry shop owner in the city.

The arrested accused have been identified as Sheik Mohammed Ansar alias Ansar (34), Rameez (21) of KC Road, Mohammad Touseef alias Tachhu (24), Ubaidulla (25), Mohammad Tauseef alias Tauseef (25), Mohammad Ali, (25), inter-state accused Ahmed Kabeer (30), Asgar Ali (27), Saabit (19), Mohammad Sabad (22) and Ameer Ali (19).

Acting on a tip-off that a team of robbers are planning to rob someone at Mangaluru Hills Road in Pachchanadi village, rural police station inspector Sidda Gouda Bhajantri and South Division Anti-Rowdy Squad staff arrested the accused.

The police recovered two cars worth Rs 3,50,000, three iron knives, four fake number plates, Rs 16,050 cash and other valuables worth Rs 3,66,050 from the accused.

When the police interrogated the accused, they spilled the beans that they have planned to loot the jewelry and cash of Vaishnavi Jewelry owner Santosh on Rath Beedi. Four other accused were escaped and they would be arrested soon, police sources said.

The arrested have been facing various cases including murder, murder attempt, robbery, assault and POCSO Act in Karnataka and Kasaragod district in Kerala.

Another case was registered at Urwa police station around 20 days ago on the robbery of cash belonging to the same person. Anti-rowdy squad ACP K Rama Rao and ASI Mohan KV, Head constables Girish Bengre, Sunil Kumar, Razy VM, Ravichandra Padre, Damodara, Rajaram, Mahesh, Mohammad Sharief, Dayanand, Sudhir Shetty, Mohammad Iqbal and Mangaluru rural police inspector SH Bhajantri and head constables Ranjan, Mohan, Subhash, Staff Maruthi, Anand and Gyanappa participated in the operation.

Jaipur (PTI): Former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday expressed concern over the reported attacks and disruptions in prayer gatherings of the Christian community in different parts of the country, saying such incidents were "worrying and condemnable".

In a post on X, Gehlot said that while the Prime Minister Narendra Modi was visiting a church and giving a message of peace and harmony, news of attacks on members of the Christian community from various regions reflected a serious contradiction.

"Symbolic gestures would not be enough, and strict legal action was required against those spreading hatred," the senior Congress leader said.

He added that Indian culture has always upheld the spirit of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam", where every citizen has full freedom to practise their faith.

Gehlot urged the Centre and state governments to uphold the rule of law and ensure that no citizen is forced to celebrate their festival under fear.
