Mangaluru: Bearys Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) on Wednesday felicitated eleven people for their services during the COVID-19 pandemic breakout earlier last year. The event was held at the city’s Ocean Pearl Hotel on Tuesday evening.
N Vinay Hegde, Chancellor of Nitte University, and Sadananda Shetty, Chairman of Shree Devi Education Trust were the Chief Guests for the event that was presided over by Haji SM Rasheed, President of BCCI.
Speaking at the event Vinay Hegde added that he had not witnessed a similar crisis anytime in his lifetime and lauded how people stood up for each other and helped each other through the lockdown period. He also thanked and congratulated the COVID-19 warriors who were felicitated during the event, for their dedication and services during the pandemic.
Another Chief Guest, Sadananda Shetty, also thanked the BCCI for acknowledging the services of COVID-19 warriors and felicitating them for their efforts and services.
Haji SM Rasheed briefly spoke about the activities and social work of BCCI.
The list of eleven people who were felicitated for their various services and efforts is as follow Abdul Rahman Gudinabali, Ziauddin Ahmed, Abdul Rauf Puthige, Dr. Farhan Fazal, Dr. Tajuddin K, KM Asif, Abubaker Siddique, Mohammed Ilyas Bajpe, Ashraf Kinara, Mohammed Ashraf Kandak, and Abdul Azeez.
BCCI General Secretary Mohammed Imthiyaz KA, Mumtaz AliKrishnapura, BM Nazeer, Shaowkath Shori, and others were present during the event.

Mumbai (PTI): Police have arrested a man and seized over 500 grams of heroin worth Rs 2.54 crore in the illicit market from him in Mumbai, officials said on Friday.
The police's Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) made the drug seizure in Santacruz in the western suburbs. The operation was conducted by the Kandivali unit of the ANC on Thursday as part of a special crackdown against drug trafficking in the area, they said.
Acting on specific inputs, an ANC team conducted a raid in Santacruz (East) and intercepted a man. During a search, the team recovered 508 grams of high-grade heroin from his possession, an official said.
The seized contraband, a highly addictive, opioid drug derived from morphine, is estimated to be worth Rs 2.54 crore in the international market, he informed.
Following the seizure, a case was registered against the man under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and he was formally placed under arrest in the early hours of Friday.
The police are currently investigating the source of the drug and trying to identify the intended recipients of the consignment, he said.
