Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada District Congress Minority Unit has called for an urgent meeting on May 29 at 2:30 pm at the Bolara Shadi Mahal auditorium in Mangaluru to discuss the growing concern over rising incidents of violence against Muslims in the region.

According to a joint statement issued by KPCC General Secretary M.S. Muhammad and District Congress Minority Unit President K.K. Shahul Hameed, the meeting has been convened in response to the recent spate of murders and targeted violence reported from across the district. The leaders have expressed deep frustration over what they allege is the failure of the State Home Department in curbing these incidents and protecting the lives and rights of the Muslim community.

Highlighting the perceived inaction and continued neglect of Muslim issues within the party and government, the leaders said the gathering will also be a platform to announce collective resignations of Muslim leaders and office-bearers associated with the Congress — right from booth-level members to those in the state unit.

The announcement comes amid heightened tensions in Dakshina Kannada district following recent communal incidents and alleged lack of adequate preventive measures.
