Mangaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday came down hard on Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Dr. KV Rajendra.

The CM who is on a two-day visit to coastal districts of the state, was attending a meeting at Nethravati Auditorium in the city to take stock of preparations pertaining to the possible third way of COVID-19.

During the meeting, Mangaluru MLA UT Khader informed the CM that COVID essentials for the medical staff like masks, PPE kits and gloves were in shortage in the district.

The District Health Officer (DHO) Dr. Kishore, replying to this, informed the CM that there was no scarcity of PPE kits, but confirmed there was shortage of gloves and N95 masks.

Irked by this, the CM took the DC to task and said "if you can't provide masks and gloves to the medical staff, then what administration are you running here? Are you not responsible for providing the safety materials to health workers?" he questioned.

"If you can't even do this, then what are you doing here?" He further slammed the DC.

The CM then directed the DC to place order of masks and gloves through SDRF funds and submit a report to him by today evening.

Kolkata (PTI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s helicopter failed to land at the Taherpur helipad in West Bengal owing to low visibility on account of dense fog in the area on Saturday, an official said.

The PM’s chopper made a U-turn after hovering over the helipad ground for a while and returned to the Kolkata airport, he said.

Till reports last received, the Prime Minister was waiting at the airport for further updates on the weather situation.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Modi would reach the rally venue district by road or whether he would wait for the weather to clear up and make another attempt to reach Taherpur by the aerial route, the official said.

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister reached Kolkata at around 10.40 am and took a chopper onward to Taherpur in Nadia district, where he is scheduled to hold an administrative programme to launch highway projects in West Bengal, followed by a political rally of the BJP, titled Parivartan Sankalpa Sabha, which he is supposed to address.
