Mangaluru: In the latest development of COVID-19 spread in Dakshina Kannada, the District reported first death due to virus. A 50-year old woman hailing from Kasaba village of Bantwal Taluk in the District breathed her last on Sunday afternoon at the city's Wenlock Hospital here.

The woman reportedly was admitted to Wenlock District Hospital for treatment of  where her throat swabs were sent for COVID-19 testing.

The woman breathed her last on Sunday morning at 9:15 am and her reports of throat swabs returned as COVID-19 positive on Sunday evening.

In the 13 cases that have been reported in the District so far, 12 patients had recovered completely and were discharged from hospital, while the 13th patient is being treated at Wenlock Hospital currently.

In an official statement, DK DC, Sindhu B Rupesh added that cremation of the woman will be arranged under medical protocol advised by doctors and under the supervision of DHO.

Sakleshpur: In a tragic incident reported from the taluk, a 28-year-old man who was on the way to his pre-wedding shoot died as his car rammed into a roadside tree.

The deceased groom, identified as Manu LN, was a resident of Darbarpet in Lakkunda village, Belur taluk, and was to get married on May 10.

Manu was traveling in his car to get his bride for the shoot when he lost control over the car near Moogali of Sakleshpur taluk and the vehicle hit a tree beside the road.

Manu is learned to have died on the spot due to the impact of the collision.
