Mangaluru: Foundation stone laid for Sree Narayana Guru circle in city
Mangaluru, Jul 24: Karnataka Minister for Energy, Kannada and Culture V Sunil Kumar on Sunday laid foundation stone for the construction of Sree Narayana Guru circle at Lady Hill in the city.
Addressing the gathering, Kumar said the ideals of social reformer Sree Narayana Guru should be followed to bring about harmony and peace in society.
He aid work on the circle, to be built at a cost of Rs 48 lakh, will be completed by Navaratri.
He said Kannada and the Culture department will be holding various programmes including Rath yatra as part of 'Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav' celebrations to reach out to the people.
MLAs D Vedavyasa Kamath, Bharath Y Shetty and city mayor Premanand Shetty were among those present at the function.

HC rejects Mahesh Shetty Thimarody’s plea challenging externment
Bengaluru: The High Court has rejected the application filed by activist Mahesh Shetty Thimarody challenging Puttur Assistant Commissioner’s externment order sending him out of Dakshina Kannada district.
Puttur AC Stella Varghese had issued the order, externing Shetty to Manvi taluk of Raichur district on March 13, 2026.
Justice Sachin Shankar Magadum, who earlier heard the plea filed by Shetty and kept the judgment pending, said on Thursday that the activist’s application was being rejected.
Stating that the petition was invalid, the judge clarified that the activist could file an application challenging the order with the Home Secretary. He also directed the state government not to take any action in connection with the case for two weeks.
