Mangaluru: Ivory Tower unveils its private sports arena for its residents
Mangaluru: The owner's association of one of the top-notch residential buildings of Mangaluru, Ivory Towers, on Saturday inaugurated its new sports arena named 'Ivory Sports Arena' at its premises here in Attavar.
The arena was inaugurated by Former Indian Football Player Mohammed Rafi.
Mangaluru City Corporation's opposition leader Abdul Ravoof, Sadananda Shetty, President of Sports Promoters Mangaluru, SM Arshad, MD of Mohtisham Complexes Pvt. Ltd, DM Aslam, President of South Kanara Football Association, Bibi Thomas Muttam, Head Coach Karnataka State in Santosh Trophy and Abdul Rahoof, MD of Sulthan Gold and Diamonds were present as the Chief Guests for the event that was presided over by Abbas Narsha, President, Ivory Towers Apartment Owners Association.
Constructed on a space of 10,000 sq. ft the arena is one of its kind private turf sports arena for residential buildings in the city.
Speaking at the event, Abdul Ravoof, the Opposition leader in Mangaluru City Corporation congratulated the owners association of the building on constructing such a sports arena in the premises and thanked SM Arshad Mohtisham for lending the space for the construction of the arena.
Mohammed Rafi also lauded the efforts of the residents in coming up with such a project in their premises. He also hoped that the kids who play in the arena will someday end up playing Football and other sports at different levels of the game.
SM Arshad Mohtisham who also addressed the event said he was impressed with the transformation of the plot that was lying vacant just a few months back into a full-fledge sports arena.
DM Aslam added there are opportunities in abundance in football for young kids as Football is taking over as the most sought after sport in the country. He also offered help from the South Kanara Football Association for the grooming of young kids as professional Football players.
Bibi Thomas Muttam also offered to provide any help in his personal capacity for the training purpose of young kids of the apartment building. He stressed that the role of the owners association was only half-done and that they need to now focus on providing guidance and training for their kids as without training there will be no output from the arena that has been constructed.
In his presidential address, Abbas Narsha said kids should be encouraged to play outdoor sports as the new age technologies have them glued to the gadgets. He added that this was one of the motives of the project to construct the sports arena.
During the event, several people were felicitated by the owners association for their contribution to the project. The suppliers and contractors of the project were also felicitated.
Basheer Sagar, the Saudi-based NRI businessman who is also a resident of Ivory Towers was also felicitated for arranging a chartered flight for 175 people stuck in Saudi Arabia amidst the COVID pandemic.

Man arrested with Rs 2.54-crore heroin in Mumbai
Mumbai (PTI): Police have arrested a man and seized over 500 grams of heroin worth Rs 2.54 crore in the illicit market from him in Mumbai, officials said on Friday.
The police's Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) made the drug seizure in Santacruz in the western suburbs. The operation was conducted by the Kandivali unit of the ANC on Thursday as part of a special crackdown against drug trafficking in the area, they said.
Acting on specific inputs, an ANC team conducted a raid in Santacruz (East) and intercepted a man. During a search, the team recovered 508 grams of high-grade heroin from his possession, an official said.
The seized contraband, a highly addictive, opioid drug derived from morphine, is estimated to be worth Rs 2.54 crore in the international market, he informed.
Following the seizure, a case was registered against the man under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and he was formally placed under arrest in the early hours of Friday.
The police are currently investigating the source of the drug and trying to identify the intended recipients of the consignment, he said.
