Mangaluru: Officers from the Pandeshwara Women Police Station have rescued a kidnapped female student from Kasaragod on Wednesday, and arrested the kidnapper.

The accused is identified as Ashfaq, a resident of Vidyanagar in Kasaragod.

The girl was staying at a relative’s house in Ullal and commuted daily to college from there. The accused kidnapped her from Ullal on June 30 and had taken her to Kochi. A case had been registered at the Pandeshwar Women Police Station in this regard.

Police found both the victim and the accused in Kasaragod on Wednesday. Ashfaq, who was already married, has more than 15 cases registered against him at various police stations in Kasaragod. The girl has been sent to a counseling centre in the city.

Kolkata: A massive fire broke out in the Ultadanga area of Kolkata on Sunday morning, leaving more than 10 houses gutted. The fire reportedly started around 7:30 am.

Six fire tenders were deployed to the site to control the fire. Efforts to douse the fire are ongoing, and authorities are yet to confirm the cause of the incident.
