Mangaluru: Srinivas Hospital on Saturday organised a press conference and announced that the Srinivas Medical College Hospital has become the first hospital to conduct a rarest of rare brain tumor surgery.
According to the information given by the hospital, the surgery was conducted on a 43 year old woman who was suffering from severe headache for several days.
“She was suffering from such severe headache that she was not in a position to speak properly when she first reported to the hospital” Bhaskar, Chief Marketing Consultant told Vartha Bharati.
Upon investigating the case and analyzing through Brain CT and MRI scans, a ‘huge’ tumor was discovered in her head which was very complicated and complex to be operated.
Dr. Deepak Suraparaju took up the challenge and urged the family of patient to immediately opt for surgery to avoid further damage to the woman and her health.
“It was a marathon surgery which lasted for eight long hours” Bhaskar said while adding that the woman was shifted to normal ward from ICU after the surgery within two days and was then discharged within five days. He claimed it to be a record time for a brain tumor patient to have recovered. And that came in a rarest of rare case.
Since the patient had financial constraints several organisations came together to raise money for her surgery through WhatsApp.
“Even the hospital offered drastically discounted cost of surgery looking at her financial constraints” Bhaskar added.
The patient is believed to be completely tumor free now and is able to work normally. Hospital official added.
Medical College Hospital Registrar Dr. Anil Kumar, Superintendent Dr. Amar, Dr. Uday Kumar Rao, Naveen Bhandari, Bhaskar Aras and others were present at the press conference.

Bhopal (PTI): A Bhopal-bound Air India flight from Mumbai carrying 175 persons on board made a “priority” landing here on Sunday due to a snag, an airport official said.
The aircraft landed safely at Bhopal airport at 3.20 pm, he said.
Consequently, the return leg of the flight from Bhopal to Mumbai, with 178 passengers booked, was cancelled, the official said.
AAI-run Bhopal airport said in a statement that Air India flight AI 633 “reported a technical issue to Air Traffic Control (ATC) during the flight from Mumbai to Bhopal”.
Immediately, all prescribed safety protocols were activated, and seamless coordination was ensured between ATC, airline ground operations, CISF and airpiort fire and rescue team of Bhopal airport, it said in a statement.
The flight, carrying 175 persons, including 166 passengers and nine crew members, landed safely at Bhopal airport at 3.20 pm, the airport operator said.
All necessary assistance and support were extended by the airport and airline teams as per the requirements of the flight crew, it said.
“Due to the technical issue, the aircraft was declared unserviceable, and as a precautionary measure, the return flight AI-634 (Bhopal to Mumbai) was cancelled by the airline to facilitate detailed inspection and rectification,” the statement said.
