Mangaluru student bags second place at the 17th State Level Open Karate Championship
Mangaluru: A 10-year old Mangaluru student bagged second place at the 17th State Level Open Karate Championship organised by Shorin-RYU Karate Association Moodbidri in association with M K Ananthraj College of Physical Education, Moodbidri.
10-year old Ismail Nameer, a fourth grade student of Barakah International School, Mangaluru participated in below 30 kg category in the championship and bagged second place.
The 17th State Level Open Karate Championship – 2019 was held at Swami’s strength training, Samaja Mandir Complex in Moodbidr.
Nameer s/o Nisar Ahmed Ruknuddin hails from Bhatkal and has been residing in Mangaluru for last few years.
Nameer has previously participated in several state, national and international level Karate championships and has won medals at various occasions including a silver medal at International Karate Championship last year.
Last year in the 16th edition of the championship Nameer had participated in below 20kg category and had secured third position in the event. He had then participated in the 4th National level open karate championship earlier this year and had secured second place in under 10 years, above 25kg category.
But his top win so far came in January this year when he secured third place in the 24th Asian/International WFSKO Open Karate Championship organized by World Funakoshi Shotokan Karate Organisation in Mumbai.
Nameer who developed interest in Karate while being trained in his previous school in Mangaluru Darul Aimaan School is currently an Orange belt holder in Karate.

4 held for sexually assaulting woman, girl on moving bus after social media alert in UP's Agra
Agra (UP) (PTI): Four people were arrested, after a prompt response by police following a social media alert, for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman and a girl inside a moving bus here, officials said on Tuesday.
According to an official police statement, at 12:27 am on April 27, information was received on the social media platform X about an incident of sexual assault on a bus travelling from Kanpur to Ahmedabad, which was approaching Namner crossing in Agra.
Acting under the direction of Police Commissioner Deepak Kumar, the Agra Police social media team immediately alerted the Rakabganj police station within minutes and coordinated with the victims to confirm the incident and obtain the exact location, it stated.
Police teams launched intensive checking at Namner crossing and intercepted the bus as it reached the spot. The four accused involved in the incident were apprehended on the spot, and legal action was initiated against them, the statement said.
The police said the swift response and coordination between the social media team and field units ensured timely action, bringing relief to the victims and other passengers, who expressed gratitude towards the police, it added.
