Mulki: Three men were detained by police on Friday, on charges of provoking their 44-year-old mother, Sumithra, to allegedly commit suicide by hanging herself at home here. The incident occurred on Thursday night in the Korambettu Colony of Lingappayya Forest Region, KS Rao Nagar.
The unfortunate episode stemmed from a dispute between Sumithra's sons Manjunath (25), Sanjeeva (22), and Prahlad alias Prabhu (19). Under the influence of alcohol, the three young men engaged in a heated argument over a seemingly trivial matter around 11:30 pm that night.
The ongoing fight between her sons appeared to have taken a toll on Sumithra's mental well-being. Reportedly overwhelmed by the situation, she tragically decided to take her own life. Using a saree, she hanged herself from a beam in one of the rooms.
In the wake of Sumithra's death, a police case has been registered. Her sons now face accusations of incitement to commit suicide. Authorities, including the Panambur Assistant Commissioner of Police and Mulki police officers, have launched an investigation into the incident.
