Mangaluru: Students of Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management Mangaluru secured five university ranks including first rank in the recent results of examinations announced by Vishweshwaraiah University of Technology (VTU).

In the results announced on Wednesday, Pavithri B. Shetty, a student of BE (Computer Science) at Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management secured first rank in the University. According to reports Pavithri secure four gold medals in her batch while competing with 15,919 students in the university.

Among other from college, Stuthi KA, scored highest marks in Concrete Technology and also bagged Ultratech Gold Medal. Manikanta P. V secured third rank in M.Tech Civil (CADS), Anusha K secured sixth rank in M.Tech (CADS), Athmiya HP secured fifth rank in MBA while Varun K secured tenth rank in MBA to bring laurels to the college.

The university rank holders will be awarded in a ceremony on March 18 in the presence of Hon’ble Governor of Karnataka Vajubhai Val.

College Principal Prof Srinivasa Rao, congratulated all the students on their achievement and wished them luck for their future endeavors.

Thrissur (Kerala) (PTI): One more person who had been hospitalised following the Mundathikode fireworks explosion died at Thrissur Medical College on Sunday, police said.

With this, the death toll in the incident has risen to 16.

According to Thrissur Medical College police, the deceased has been identified as Unnikrishnan from Edappal, who was among the 38 persons present at the fireworks manufacturing unit in Mundathikode where the explosions occurred on April 21.

Police said Unnikrishnan had suffered over 80 per cent burns and had remained in critical condition.

The condition of the two other injured persons remains critical, police said.

Of the 38 persons present at the site, 16 have died, while four remain missing.

The fireworks were being manufactured for Thiruvambady Devaswom as part of the Thrissur Pooram festivities.

The licensee of the unit had also suffered burn injuries and had died earlier.
