Mangaluru: In an incident reported in the city on Saturday, a woman has alleged that she found an alive worm in a food package ordered online from noted fast food restaurant chain of the city "Chicking, it's my choice".

The woman, identified as Simran Kola, has filed a complaint in this regard at the Lady Hill Police Station in the city.

According to the complaint, the woman ordered food from the City Centre Mall's outlet of the restaurant and consumed half of the items that they ordered. It further adds, they soon found a alive worm that was crawling out of one of the burgers in the package.

Speaking to Vartha Bharati, Simran also alleged that when they brought the issue to the notice of the restaurant, they were unable to get a appropriate response from the staff, prompting them to file a police complaint in this regard.

She further questioned as to who was to be held responsible if such irresponsible acts of restaurants compromise with the health of consumers.

She has also urged authorities to take action against the food outlet in this regard.

The manager of the outlet Keshav Das, also spoke to Vartha Bharati and added that they cook chicken at 163 degree heat and it was impossible for the worm to survive it. He further stated that there were no complaints of such mishaps against the company and outlet.

Keshav also said the company was ready to replace the food items to the consumers and also refund the bill. He then said they will speak to the complainant on Sunday and will resolve the issue.

Mumbai (PTI): Police have arrested a man and seized over 500 grams of heroin worth Rs 2.54 crore in the illicit market from him in Mumbai, officials said on Friday.

The police's Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) made the drug seizure in Santacruz in the western suburbs. The operation was conducted by the Kandivali unit of the ANC on Thursday as part of a special crackdown against drug trafficking in the area, they said.

Acting on specific inputs, an ANC team conducted a raid in Santacruz (East) and intercepted a man. During a search, the team recovered 508 grams of high-grade heroin from his possession, an official said.

The seized contraband, a highly addictive, opioid drug derived from morphine, is estimated to be worth Rs 2.54 crore in the international market, he informed.

Following the seizure, a case was registered against the man under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and he was formally placed under arrest in the early hours of Friday.

The police are currently investigating the source of the drug and trying to identify the intended recipients of the consignment, he said.
