Mangaluru: The body of a man was found under suspicious circumstances in a river near Bunder in Mangaluru, prompting police to suspect foul play.
The deceased has been identified as Nasir, also known as ‘Dakke Nasir’. Police said multiple theft and robbery cases had previously been registered against him.
The body was discovered in the river adjacent to an under-construction building in the Bunder area. Injury marks on the forehead and other parts of the body have raised suspicion that he may have been assaulted and later dumped in the water by unidentified persons.
On receiving information, personnel from the Pandeshwara police station rushed to the spot and conducted a preliminary inspection.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of death and identify those involved.
Sources said this is the second suspected murder reported in Mangaluru in the last 10 days.

Bagalkot: The Congress has secured a victory in the Bagalkot Assembly by-election, with its candidate Umesh Meti winning the seat after maintaining a lead from the first round of counting till the end.
The seat had fallen vacant following the death of sitting MLA H Y Meti. Umesh Meti, his son, has now been elected to the Assembly.
Party leaders attributed the victory to a combination of factors, including sympathy votes, the state government’s schemes, and campaign strategies led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and senior leader Satish Jarkiholi.
The Congress maintained a consistent lead throughout the counting process, eventually securing a decisive win in the constituency.
