Udupi: MET English Medium School, Udyavara, organised Sports Fest 2K25 with active participation from students, parents, grandparents and alumni, turning the campus into a hub of sporting activity.

The programme began with a welcome address by Dr. Junaida Sulthana, Academic Head. This was followed by the keynote address by Headmistress Savitha Acharya, who encouraged students to strive for excellence not only in academics but also in sports and other areas of life.

Former MLA and Karnataka Minister Pramod Madhavaraj attended the event as the chief guest. In his address, he stressed the importance of discipline and consistent effort, stating that commitment matters more than results. The presidential address was delivered by Hajji Abdul Jaleel, President of the Millath Education Trust, who spoke on the role of holistic education, moral values and physical fitness in shaping responsible citizens.

Other dignitaries present included M. A. Gafoor, Chairman of the Coastal Development Board; Abid Gadiyal, KAS, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Udupi; and Ravindra Nayak, Taluk Physical Education Officer. Trustees and guests in attendance included Sabih Kazi, Mohammed Iqbal, Fayaz, Iqbal Shamshuddin, Sameer Parkala, Shahnawaz, PTA President Dr Faisal and well-wisher Iqbal Manna.

In the competitions, Mercury House (Green House) won the House Championship Trophy. Mohammed Yasin and Aathmi were declared Senior Boys and Senior Girls champions respectively, while Rihan Ali and Ifra Ayesha emerged as Junior Boys and Junior Girls champions. Ilan Nawaz was named Best Alumni Athlete and Shabeena Palaukar received the Best Parent Athlete award.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Sukhalata, Physical Education Teacher.

New Delhi (PTI): Ramzan fasts will begin on Thursday in India as the crescent moon marking the start of the fasting month was sighted in various parts of the country on Wednesday.

After the sighting of the moon, the holy month begins and for the next 30 days, Muslims fast from dawn to dusk.

Shahi Imam of Chandni Chowk's Fatehpuri mosque Maulana Mufti Mukarram Ahmed announced that the crescent moon was sighted and the month of fasting will start from February 19.

Naib Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid Syed Shaban Bukhari also declared that the moon was sighted.

During this month, a special prayer called Taraweeh are offered in mosques in the evening. In this prayer, the entire Quran is recited and it continues till the sighting of the Eid moon.

Mufti Mukarram has appealed to the Muslim community to "pray as much as possible for the well-being of the 140 crore people of the country".
