Mangaluru: Concerning the case of Kodikal and Kulur Nagabana destruction, the police have arrested eight individuals.

The arrested have been identified as Kavur residents Safwan, Shuhaib, Praveen Anil Montero, Nikhilesh, Jayakumar, Pratheek, Manjunath, and Naushad.

Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar who addressed the press conference on Saturday said, “The accused will be taken into custody and further inquiry will be carried out. It has come to our notice that several other individuals are also involved in this case. Operations are underway to locate them”, he said.

“Two of the accused, Irshad and Achchi, who had been arrested for serial thefts, and out on bail are allegedly the main conspirators of the case. Since the police were obstacles in their attempts to thefts, they had planned this scheme to shift the attention of the police elsewhere. They had brought this to the attention of Safwan Kavur, a fellow associate. Safwan and the gang got together to deduce that if religious sites are desecrated, then the attention of the police is bound to be diverted. The accused provided this information during the preliminary investigation. Further inquiry is underway” the police commissioner informed.

The police who took in 40 individuals, conducted an investigation and arrested the accused. The remaining accused will be arrested swiftly, informed the police.

On November 13, it had come to light that a stone had been dislodged and thrown away from the Kodikal Naga circle. Before this, the miscreants had damaged the Kulur Nagabana in the Kavur police station jurisdiction.
