Mangaluru: Under the Drug-Free Mangaluru campaign, police from various stations under the city commissionerate have carried out multiple operations, arresting seven people, including a Kerala-origin engineering student, for selling ganja in separate incidents.

In one case, Bunder Police on August 8 arrested Abdul Samad alias Chammu, who was selling ganja to college students and the public in the Kandathpalli area of Kudroli. Police seized 1.40 kg of ganja from him.

In another operation, Mulki Police raided a spot in the Lingapayya forest area of Kolnadu, where Dharmlinga from Karnadu village was allegedly selling ganja to college students and daily-wage workers. They recovered 1.90 kg of ganja from him.

In Bajpe Police limits, near Maravoor, Bihar-origin suspects Daulat Kumar Sharma and Muhammad Khushalam were arrested while selling ganja to the public. Police seized 1.189 kg of ganja from them.

Kankanady Police, near Padil, arrested Karthik and Moth while they were attempting to sell ganja, recovering 800 grams.

In another case, Kadri Police arrested Kerala-origin engineering student Pranav K., who was selling ganja to college students and the public, seizing 1.100 kg of the substance.

Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy stated that further information is being gathered about those continuously selling ganja to students, youth, and the public. Details of the customers who purchased ganja from these accused have also been obtained. Teams have already been formed across police station limits to trace and apprehend them.

Latur (PTI): A minor girl was allegedly kidnapped and raped by an 18-year-old man in Latur, leading to the arrest of the main accused and owners of two cafes where the crime occurred on December 4, police said on Saturday.

Police traced the girl within hours of registering the complaint. The accused, identified as Rihan Gulab Shaikh, was arrested based on the girl's complaint. Two others are owners of two cafes where the crime occurred, police said.

 

Police registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), POCSO Act, and the Prevention of Atrocities Act, an official said.
