Moodabidri, October 03: A clash erupted for a petty issue between two friends ended up with the killing of another at Shirthady near here on Tuesday night and the incident came to light on Wednesday.
The victim is identified as Shekar Poojary (52) of Shirthady. Basically, he was from Kerala. But after his marriage, he settled in Shirthady. The accused Jaya Madiwala (42) was arrested by the police. Both of them were good friends. On Monday night, Shekar Poojary had come to his friend Jaya Madiwala’s house on Monday night. They consumed alcohol and were ready for dinner. At this time, an argument developed between them for an old issue which turned into a clash.
In a fist of anger, Jaya Madiwala attacked Shekar Poojary with a sickle on his neck and head. Seriously injured Shekar Poojary died on the spot, police said.
When the Moodabidri police visited the spot, Jaya Madiwala was sleeping on the spot. Later, the police arrested Jaya Madiwala and registered a case.

New Delhi (PTI): The Supreme Court on Monday sought responses from the Centre and others on a plea to accord weightage to states' proposal on the exact cost of cultivation while fixing minimum support price (MSP).
A bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi issued notices to the Centre and others, including the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices, seeking their response on the plea.
Advocate Prashant Bhushan, appearing for the petitioners, said the plea raises a very important issue related to the farmers in the country.
The plea has sought direction to the authorities to ensure complete procurement of all notified crops under the MSP calculated on the basis of the exact cost of cultivation.
It has also sought direction to take appropriate steps to ensure complete procurement of crops from all farmers who are desirous of selling their crops at the MSP.
