A Three-day faculty development program was organized from 27th to 29th Sept, 2021 at Bearys Institute of Technology sponsored by ISTE New Delhi.
During the three-day Programme various related subtopics were discussed in detail by eminent educationists and a highly beneficial academic environment was experienced by the participants. The FDP started on 27th Sept, 2021 at 9.30am with the Invocation and Watering the plant. Dr. S.I Manjur Basha, Principal, BIT-Mangalore welcomed the gathering.
The first session was on the topic “Introduction to NEP Benefits and Demerits” by Dr. Valerian Rodrigues, Former Professor of JNU Delhi. In his speech he pointed out on reforms the Policy initiative is bringing into limelight and talked about the positives as well as negatives of it.
He also stated that "Most of the time students are not exposed to an imaginative, inquisitive and reflective modes of learning which can ignite minds but makes them settle to the humdrum and drill of everyday life”. He also added that the goals of education are ‘economic growth, social justice & equality, scientific advancement, national integration & cultural preservation, which the NEP is trying to achieve in its objective.
The Second Session was from Dr. Suresh DS, Chairman, ISTE Karnataka and Director CIT Group of Institutions. Dr. Suresh addressed on the Overview of NEP2020. He said there are three important things for humans: Education, employability and Employment. In addition to this he shed lights on the idea of multidisciplinary universities with a large body of students, and the idea that eventually colleges need to be constituent colleges or grow into universities.
On day two, the third session was by Dr. Karunakar Kotegar, HOD-Dept of Computer Application, MIT, Manipal. He has been instrumental in diving deep into the prospects of NEP and stressed on the need of Motivated, Energized and Capable Faculty to envision NEP and Re-imagining Vocational Education, which requires Integration of Vocational Education into mainstream education, along with Short term certificate courses, Vocational courses through Open and Distance Learning and Incubation centers. He provided various examples where creativity was initiated and incubated in growing children.
The fourth session was taken by Dr. Abdul Khader A A, Principal, Karnataka Polytechnic, Mangalore. He delivered the talk on Types of Teaching and Basic Principles of Teaching. He said, now the role of teacher is changed, the teacher has to be a Content creator, Content Editor, Moderator, Motivator, and also a Coach and Mentor. He emphasized on the use of online teaching tools and to fruitfully use technology to impart Education.
He also spoke about the latest trends which are observed in various institutes and the perception of teachers regarding the same. The lecture was very beneficial and provided an insight on the various challenges associated with which a teacher educator has to overcome.
The day three was on “Creating Culture of Excellence in Bearys” and the session was by Dr. JM Sampath, Managing Director, Arpitha Associates Pvt Ltd. He has authored eight books and is a Motivational Speaker. It was activity based learning session to bring a leadership quality in students for that the teacher has to focus on Good communication, Motivation and initiative, Reliability, dependability, Team work, Patience and Adaptability. He also spoke on creating creativity in young minds and taught, how to teach to develop creativity in children. It was indeed a great session.
“The Three day FDF sessions have provided a thought provoking and a good learning experience with questions and interactions from all the participants. The teaching and Non-Teaching faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Diploma have taken part in this workshop and made it a successful one” an official statement from the college stated.
The program concluded with Vote of Thanks by Ar. Ashok LP, Principal, BEADS, Mangalore and National Anthem.

Srinagar (PTI): Property worth Rs 1 crore belonging to a notorious drug peddler was on Saturday attached in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar, police said.
A double-storey house on eight marlas of land situated at Wantpora Eidgah, belonging to Basit Bilal Dar, a notorious drug peddler, valued at approximately Rs 1 crore, a police spokesperson said.
He said Dar is involved in two cases registered under various sections of the NDPS Act.
During investigation, it was established that the accused had acquired the said property through illicit proceeds generated from drug trafficking activities, the spokesperson said.
Consequently, the property was attached under the provisions of the NDPS Act. The attachment proceedings were conducted in the presence of the two independent witnesses, strictly in accordance with the prescribed legal procedures, he said.
As per the attachment order, the owner has been restrained from selling, leasing, transferring, altering, or creating any third-party interest in the property till further orders, the spokesperson added.
