Kasaragod: In an incident reported from Mogral Puthur in the district, two men were killed as the box of a crane they were in collapsed amid the work on the national highway on Thursday afternoon.
The workers, Akshay and Ashwin, who were both 30 years old and residents of Vadagara, Kozhikode, were grievously injured in the accident and died in hospital.
The men were reportedly inside the box of a crane that was being used to fix street lamps along the national highway stretch when the box disconnected from the crane and fell. The workers were thrown on the service road and sustained serious injuries.
Although they were rushed to hospital, they could not be saved. Akshay is learned to have died at the Kumble Hospital while Ashwin died in a hospital in Mangaluru.

Ahmedabad (PTI): Shubman Gill led from the front with a classy 86 as Gujarat Titans defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by five wickets in an Indian Premier League match here on Friday.
Earlier, KKR all-rounder Cameron Green produced a fighting 79 off 55 balls to lift his side to 180 all out. In reply, Gill anchored the chase with a composed 86 off 50 deliveries as GT crossed the line in 19.4 overs.
The win marked GT's third successive victory after opening with two losses, while KKR's search for their first win of the season continues.
