Mangaluru, May 24: As per the Karnataka Coastal Fishing (Control) Act 1986, the Karnataka state government has banned fishing activity using nets and other materials through mechanized boats or traditional boats using inboard or outboard machines of above 10 horse power capacity in the coastal belt of Dakshina Kannada district in the state for 61 days from June 1 to July 31.

In its order, the government said that the boats carrying having 10 horse power capacity motors and traditional boats could take up the fishing in the coastal area. The fishermen who violate the ban order of the government would attract punishment under the Act and would not get subsidized diesel for next one year. Keeping in mind the interests of the fishermen of the coastal region, the government has issued the ban order and they should abide by this order, according to the order.

Latur (PTI): A minor girl was allegedly kidnapped and raped by an 18-year-old man in Latur, leading to the arrest of the main accused and owners of two cafes where the crime occurred on December 4, police said on Saturday.

Police traced the girl within hours of registering the complaint. The accused, identified as Rihan Gulab Shaikh, was arrested based on the girl's complaint. Two others are owners of two cafes where the crime occurred, police said.

 

Police registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), POCSO Act, and the Prevention of Atrocities Act, an official said.
