Padubidre: The dead body of a student who went missing after heavy rain on Tuesday was found on Wednesday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Nidhi Acharya (9). The locals, who were searching her, found her body nearby. Nidhi and Nisha, daughters of Umesh Acharya and Asha of Padebettu, were students of SBVP Higher Primary School. Nidhi was studying in the fourth standard.
Both the sisters used to go to school by bicycle. Due to heavy rainfall on Tuesday, the school closed at 3 pm itself. While proceeding towards their home, Nidhi and Nisha were washed away in swirling rainwater while crossing a small bridge near Padebettu’s Alde. Nisha managed to grip on and was rescued by a few locals. But Nidhi was not fortunate enough to get any grip and went missing. Unfortunately, today her dead body has been found.
Compensation announced: DC Priyanka Mary Francis visited the victim’s home and consoled the bereaved family members besides announcing a compensation of Rs. 4 lakh.

Patna (PTI): BJP leader Samrat Choudhary was sworn in as the chief minister of Bihar on Wednesday, the first from the saffron party to hold the post. Governor Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain (retd) administered the oath of office and secrecy to Choudhry.
Top leaders of the ruling NDA in Bihar, which comprises the BJP, JD(U) and three other parties, attended the ceremony.
They included Union Ministers J P Nadda and Chirag Paswan, Nitish Kumar, and all NDA MLAs.
Nitish Kumar, who is now a Rajya Sabha MP, relinquished the chief minister's post on Tuesday, dissolving his cabinet in which Choudhary was a deputy chief minister and held the crucial home portfolio.
Choudhary, who joined the BJP in 2017, was named the legislative party leader on Tuesday in the presence of top functionaries like BJP chief Nitin Nabin and Union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, whom the parliamentary board had named as "central observer" for the transition.
