Udupi: In a distressing incident, Suryansh Sunil, a 22-year-old resident of Udupi, has become a victim of online fraud, losing a total of Rs 7.30 lakh. Sunil fell prey to a deceptive WhatsApp message promising part-time employment and lucrative earnings at a company called Demco Group Digital Marketing Company India.

The fraudulent scheme unfolded when Sunil received a message on May 20, claiming that he could earn money by working for Demco Group. Encouraged by the opportunity, Sunil contacted a person named Sneha Sharma, who instructed him to pay a sum of money in order to carry out a task for the company. Sunil was provided with the bank account details to facilitate the transfer of funds. Trusting the legitimacy of the offer, Sunil proceeded to transfer a total of Rs. 7,30,926 to various accounts specified by the perpetrators. These transactions were conducted online between May 21 and May 26.

To his dismay, Sunil realized that after completing the assigned task, the accused failed to provide the promised payment and did not return the transferred funds. Consequently, Sunil lodged a complaint at the local crime police station, detailing the fraudulent incident.

A case in this regard has been under the Information Technology Act and further investigations are underway.

The rising trend of online fraud continues to pose a significant challenge, with innocent individuals falling victim to cunning scams and financial deception. Authorities have been urging citizens to exercise caution while engaging in online transactions and to be skeptical of unsolicited messages offering quick monetary gains.

Agra (UP) (PTI): Four people were arrested, after a prompt response by police following a social media alert, for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman and a girl inside a moving bus here, officials said on Tuesday.

According to an official police statement, at 12:27 am on April 27, information was received on the social media platform X about an incident of sexual assault on a bus travelling from Kanpur to Ahmedabad, which was approaching Namner crossing in Agra.

Acting under the direction of Police Commissioner Deepak Kumar, the Agra Police social media team immediately alerted the Rakabganj police station within minutes and coordinated with the victims to confirm the incident and obtain the exact location, it stated.

Police teams launched intensive checking at Namner crossing and intercepted the bus as it reached the spot. The four accused involved in the incident were apprehended on the spot, and legal action was initiated against them, the statement said.

The police said the swift response and coordination between the social media team and field units ensured timely action, bringing relief to the victims and other passengers, who expressed gratitude towards the police, it added.
