Surathkal: A team led by Manoj Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mangaluru North Sub-Division, has taken into custody three individuals including A 1 accused Rehmat in connection with the case of Krishnapura businessman and former MLA Moideen Bava's brother, Mumtaz Ali's death.

It has been learnt that Rehmat (41), a resident of Surathkal Krishnapura 7th Block, her husband Shuaib (A5), and Siraj (A6), a driver working for Abdul Satar, have been detained in connection with the case.

Although the police has not made an official announcement in this regard, reports suggest that Rehmat and Shuaib were apprehended in Kerala, while Siraj was taken into custody by the CCB police team from his home in Krishnapura.

According to a complaint filed by Mumtaz Ali's brother Haider Ali, the accused Rehmat, Abdul Satar, Qalandar Shafi, Mustafa, Shuaib, Siraj mentally harassed Mumtaz Ali.

Haider in his complaint alleged that owing to pressure from the accused his brother Mumtaz committed suicide. Based on his complaint, a case under IPC sections 308(2), 308(5) and 352, 351(2) 190 of BNS Act was registered and an investigation into the matter has been initiated.

Currently, three suspects, including the main accused Rehmat, are in custody, and the investigation is underway.

His departure from the JMM, led by Shibu Soren and his son Hemant Soren, was fueled by dissatisfaction with the state government’s policies, which he claimed had failed to address tribal concerns.

Also known as "Jharkhand’s Tiger" for his instrumental role in the statehood movement of the 1990s, Champai Soren has respect and influence among tribal voters. His decision to switch the party could be a turning point in the BJP’s efforts to gain a stronger hold in a state where tribal votes often decide the outcome.
