Udupi: Former fisheries minister Pramod Madhwaraj on Friday shared images on his Facebook page claiming that the images are of INS Cochin being repaired after it collided with Suvarna Tribhuja which went missing on December 15 last year.

“I am releasing the images of warship INS Cochin after it collided with Suvarna Tribhuja. The Navy vessel has severe damage due to the collision with the fishing boat” he said.

“I urge the Prime Minister to immediately call for a judicial investigation in this matter on behalf of all the fishermen of Coast and the family members of all the seven fishermen who were onboard Suvarna Tribhuja” he added.

He further said that the Navy is accountable for the security of the country and the fishermen in the sea and maintained that the Navy itself has killed the seven fishermen. “This should be called murder” he said.

I always batted for revealing the incident to the family members of those fishermen before the Lok Sabha Election. But the Defence Ministry and BJP leaders tried to gain political mileage by hiding the truth, Madhwaraj said.

“I call upon BJP leaders and Central government to initiate Judicial probe in the matter headed by retired Judges of Supreme Court and make the truth accessible for all” he wrote in the Facebook post.

Bengaluru (PTI): Four engineering students were allegedly held captive and robbed of Rs 1.5 lakh while returning after having biryani at a popular food joint on the outskirts of the city, police said on Tuesday.

The incident occurred on December 21 when the students were returning on two-wheelers from an early morning trip to an eatery in Hoskote, they said.

One of the accused has been arrested, and efforts are on to nab the remaining suspects, police said.

According to the police, the students are from a private college in Bagalur. While returning from the eatery, they were allegedly intercepted near a toll plaza by a gang of men, who thrashed them and took away their mobile phones and two-wheelers.

However, the students later got their vehicles back, he said.
