Mangaluru: In an anti-corruption operation, officers from the Lokayukta Police arrested Ronald Lobo, a Junior Engineer from the Public Works Department (PWD), red-handed as he was accepting a bribe from a contractor at his office in Bondel, Mangaluru, on Wednesday.
The arrest followed a complaint lodged by Prabhakar Naik, a Level-2 contractor working with the PWD, who alleged that Lobo, responsible for quality control in the department, demanded a bribe of Rs 22,000 from him. Naik, who had undertaken construction work amounting to Rs 45 lakh in the SCST Colonies of two villages in Belthangady taluk, refused to comply with the illegal demand.
Upon receiving the complaint, the Lokayukta Police initiated an investigation under the guidance of Superintendent of Police CA Simon. The police team visited the PWD office and apprehended Lobo while he was accepting the bribe from Naik.

Mumbai (PTI): Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday morning met Governor C P Radhakrishnan and tendered his resignation following the results of the assembly elections.
The governor asked Shinde to act as a caretaker chief minister till a new CM is sworn in.
Shinde visited the Raj Bhavan along with deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar.
The term of the Maharashtra assembly ends on November 26.
Despite the Mahayuti alliance of the BJP, Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar's NCP securing a massive victory, winning 230 seats in the 288-member assembly, consensus has eluded the ruling combine’s leaders so far on who should be the next CM.
