Puttur: In an FIR filed by a victimized woman at the Puttur City Police station, the victim revealed that she and her two male associates were beaten by a gang while they were eating in a lodge. The woman had reportedly travelled from Bengaluru along with her colleagues to release a car that was in police custody and the trio had stopped on the way to eat food when they were attacked. Accordingly, the police have booked five individuals in this regard. 

Details of the incident: A car belonging to Rajeshwari (35), a resident of Halepete in Anekal Taluk, Bengaluru, had been in the custody of Puttur city police concerning a case and she had arrived in Puttur on September 18 to release the vehicle in question, it is learned. Two of her work colleagues, U. K. Muhammed Arafath, a resident of Ullal, and Shiva, a resident of Bengaluru Kottigeri had accompanied her in this regard. The three of them had sought temporary accommodation at a lodge near the city’s bypass. On September 20, when the three of them were eating at the lodge, a gang of 4-5 men approached them and began abusing them with vulgar speech and insulted them. They also assaulted Shiva. In a complaint registered with the police, Rajeshwari has also revealed that the men took her photo without consent and insulted her. 

The police have registered a case and an investigation is underway.

Srinagar (PTI): Property worth Rs 1 crore belonging to a notorious drug peddler was on Saturday attached in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar, police said.

A double-storey house on eight marlas of land situated at Wantpora Eidgah, belonging to Basit Bilal Dar, a notorious drug peddler, valued at approximately Rs 1 crore, a police spokesperson said.

He said Dar is involved in two cases registered under various sections of the NDPS Act.

During investigation, it was established that the accused had acquired the said property through illicit proceeds generated from drug trafficking activities, the spokesperson said.

Consequently, the property was attached under the provisions of the NDPS Act. The attachment proceedings were conducted in the presence of the two independent witnesses, strictly in accordance with the prescribed legal procedures, he said.

As per the attachment order, the owner has been restrained from selling, leasing, transferring, altering, or creating any third-party interest in the property till further orders, the spokesperson added.
