Mangaluru, Aug.22: Puttur town police team headed by D district SP Dr.B.R. Ravikanthe arrested four persons and seized two Deer antlers.
They have also seized the vehicle used to transport the antlers. One accused n the incident has managed to give slip to the police.
On Tuesday Puttur town police inspector Mahesh Prasad and Uppinangadi PS Nanda Kumar were checking vehicles at Linet Bypass in Puttur. They found two deer antlers in a Maruthi Zen car and immediately seized the antlers.
The arrested have been identified as Shaiju (26) resident of Kajelmoole in Kodimbala and Saji A. K (40) a resident of Alarame in Kutrupadi village Sandeep (29) from Ajekar in Karala and Sajit Abraham (29) from Minadi in Kutrupadi.
Ranjith Kodimbala another accused in the incident managed to escape from the spot.
The accused were smuggling the antlers from Ajekar in Karala to sell it in Puttur.
On a tip off Uppnangadi police waylaid the vehicle at Uppinangadi but as the accused escaped towards Puttur.
A case been fled under Wildlife protection act 192. Investigation is on.

Thrissur (Kerala) (PTI): At least five people, including two children, were killed and as many persons injured when a truck ploughed into the roadside tent where they were sleeping in this central Kerala district early on Tuesday, police said.
The victims, nomads living in tents set up along the highway, were struck by the truck on a national highway in Nattika, under the Valapad police station limits, at 4.30 am, they said.
The injured have been admitted to Thrissur Government Medical College Hospital, with the condition of two individuals reported as serious, police said.
Among the deceased are two children, aged one-and-a-half and four years. Two women were also killed.
The driver and cleaner of the vehicle have been taken into custody, police added.
