Puttur: In an incident of theft that came to light on Thursday morning, thieves reportedly broke into and stole from two shops beside the Krishna Nagar Church near the Puttur-Uppinangady road.
Reportedly, the thieves stole a stockpile of 2 gunny bags containing cigarette packets and tobacco products along with some money from the cash drawer inside the shop of an individual named Gopala, which is located near Krishna Nagar. From the adjacent vegetable shop belonging to a vendor named Lateef, the thieves reportedly broke in through the rolling shutter and stole Rs 300 that was kept in a box, the complaint registered with the police details.
Gopala used to run a small roadside shop near Salmar cross several years ago, which had burned down in a fire. Afterward, as the road expansion work was undertaken in the area, he had moved his little shop to Krishna Nagar. Previously, an incident of theft had occurred in his shop and now for the second time, his shop has been once again been subjected to theft.
It is learned that the Puttur city police visited the scene and conducted an inquiry.

Srinagar (PTI): Property worth Rs 1 crore belonging to a notorious drug peddler was on Saturday attached in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar, police said.
A double-storey house on eight marlas of land situated at Wantpora Eidgah, belonging to Basit Bilal Dar, a notorious drug peddler, valued at approximately Rs 1 crore, a police spokesperson said.
He said Dar is involved in two cases registered under various sections of the NDPS Act.
During investigation, it was established that the accused had acquired the said property through illicit proceeds generated from drug trafficking activities, the spokesperson said.
Consequently, the property was attached under the provisions of the NDPS Act. The attachment proceedings were conducted in the presence of the two independent witnesses, strictly in accordance with the prescribed legal procedures, he said.
As per the attachment order, the owner has been restrained from selling, leasing, transferring, altering, or creating any third-party interest in the property till further orders, the spokesperson added.
