Puttur, October 15: A two-wheeler rider died when a car and scooter collided each other at Thingaladi of Kedambadi village in Puttur taluk on Sunday night.
The deceased has been identified as SB Sudesh Rai (28), of Keyyur village. He was working as village accountant at Punacha.
The car heading towards Kumbra from Thingaladi collided with the scooter coming from opposite direction and Sudesh sustained severe head injury. After the accident, the car driver escaped leaving the car. Noticing the injured person, Thingaladi auto drivers association president Naushad, with the help of Hasainar and Yusuf took him to a hospital in a car. But the doctor declared him brought dead.
Sudesh, son of late Guddappa Rai of Keyyur, also served as the village accountant of Olamogru in Puttur and recently transferred to Punacha. A case was registered at Sampya police station.
Humane work of Naushad appreciated
Though there were many people gathered on the accident sport after the incident, no one has come forward to take the injured person to a hospital. But auto driver Naushad who came on the same direction tried to shift the injured in his auto. Since Sudesh's leg was fractured, Naushad could not shift him in his auto. Later, he took the help of a local person to shift him in a car and admitted to the hospital. People appreciated the humane gesture of Naushad.

Kozhikode (Kerala) (PTI): A Kerala court on Wednesday sentenced a man to 41 years in prison for sexually assaulting a minor boy near Valayam in 2021.
Nadapuram Fast Track Special Court judge K Naushad Ali sentenced 64-year-old Panchara Musa, also known as Ganapathiyat Musa, under various provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC), according to special public prosecutor Manoj Aroor.
As the sentences are to run concurrently, the convict will have to serve the highest term of 20 years’ imprisonment, SPP Aroor said. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 52,000 on Musa.
The incident took place in August 2021 when the accused allegedly took the 14-year-old boy to a bus stop in Valayam town and sexually assaulted him, the prosecutor said. The accused also gave Rs 50 to the boy, he added.
Following the incident, the boy and his father lodged a complaint at the Valayam police station.
A case under various provisions of the POCSO Act and the IPC was registered, and the accused was subsequently arrested, the SPP said.
The prosecution examined 16 witnesses and submitted 16 documents to substantiate its case against the accused, he added.
