Sullia: A private school's pick-up van caught fire and wholly gutted at Karlapadi near Ajjavara here on Thursday morning.

It is learnt that as usual the van, belonging to Sullia's KVG Educational Society, was parked near its driver's house. Around 6 a.m. on Thursday, the fire broke out in the van and in no time the flames engulfed the vehicle entirely.

Fire tenders rushed to the spot and doused the blaze.

An electric short circuit is suspected to have caused the fire accident.

However, the exact reason behind the incident is yet to be known.

Bengaluru: A lady passenger on Namma Metro, who was caught on camera eating while traveling on the train on Saturday, was fined Rs 500 by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) for violation of Metro rules.

In a press release issued on Monday, BMRCL has said that the woman, a regular Metro passenger, was traveling from Madavara to Magadi Road on Saturday. Her act of violation of rules was captured on camera by a co-passenger, who also uploaded the video clip on social media. The Metro security staff, who checked the clip, fined the woman Rs 500 when she entered the Madavara Metro Station on Monday.

BMRCL has clarified that the fine was imposed to emphasize its commitment to maintain cleanliness in the trains. It has stressed on the importance of adhering to the rules to ensure comfort of travel and safety for all passengers as the Metro trains are shared space.
