Udupi, July 19: Lakshmivara Tirtha Swamiji of Shiroor Mutt, one of the Ashta Mutts, who died of bleeding and failure of organs today morning, was not only restricted to spiritual life, but also interested in worldly subjects and thus became a multi-faced talent.

The swamiji had accepted Sanyasa Deeksha at the age of eight years. He was the son of Vittalacharya and Kusuma couple of Madamakki near Hebri and his previous name was Harish Acharya.

In 1978, he assumed the Paryaya Peetha of Udupi Sri Krishna Mutt for the first time and in 2010-12, he successfully completed his third term of Paryaya. For more than four decades, the swamiji has served Lord Srikrishna. He was popular because, he used to make different decorations to Lord Sri Krishna every day.

Being an art lover, the swamiji has got talent in instrumental music including drums. Artiste Sivamani and his dual concert was so popular. Apart from this, he was an expert in swimming and Karate.

He had created ripples among Ashta mutts by expressing his desire of contesting the last Assembly election in the state. But later, he had withdrawn his candidature. He used to tell that he was a fan of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. He has also threatened to move the court against the swamijis of remaining mutts among Ashta Mutts on returning Presiding Deity.

People thronged to the KMC hospital mortuary where the mortal remains of the swamiji was kept and in front of the Shiroor Mutt on Udupi Ratha Beedi. It was decided to take the Sri Krishna Mutt after its postmortem and later take it to the Shiroor Mutt near Hiriyadka.

Mysuru (Karnataka) (PTI): A male leopard strayed into a house here on Friday, triggering panic among residents, forest officials said.

The incident occurred around 10 am at Siddhartha Layout in the city, they said.

According to officials, the leopard, estimated to be around three to four years old, entered the house of a resident identified as Suresh. The animal was found hiding beneath a cot in one of the rooms. Those in the house managed to escape and alerted forest department officials, who rushed to the spot along with veterinarians.

The leopard, suspected to have strayed from the Chamundi Hills or nearby forest areas, was eventually tranquilised. It was later safely shifted to the Mysuru Zoo, a senior forest official said.
