Udupi, November 19: The state government has appointed IAS officer Sindhu B Roopesh as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Udupi Zilla Panchayat, on Monday.
Though Sindhu, who was working as deputy secretary at the Budget and Resources Division of the Finance department, was transferred earlier, she was not shown any posts. Now, she was appointed as the ZP CEO.
Sindhu is the 2011 batch IAS officer. She has done her engineering from NIE of Mysuru. She has got first place in the IAS from the state during 2011. The state government has transferred Shivananda Kapasi who was Udupi ZP CEO, on November 13, as Registrar of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences of Bengaluru. In place of him, the government has transferred Medical Education Directorate chief officer P Vasanth Kumar. But later in the transfer order issued on Monday, the government has appointed Sindhu P Roopesh as the Udupi ZP CEO and cancelled the transfer of P Vasanth Kumar, sources said.

Jaipur (PTI): Former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday expressed concern over the reported attacks and disruptions in prayer gatherings of the Christian community in different parts of the country, saying such incidents were "worrying and condemnable".
In a post on X, Gehlot said that while the Prime Minister Narendra Modi was visiting a church and giving a message of peace and harmony, news of attacks on members of the Christian community from various regions reflected a serious contradiction.

"Symbolic gestures would not be enough, and strict legal action was required against those spreading hatred," the senior Congress leader said.
He added that Indian culture has always upheld the spirit of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam", where every citizen has full freedom to practise their faith.
Gehlot urged the Centre and state governments to uphold the rule of law and ensure that no citizen is forced to celebrate their festival under fear.
