Bengaluru: After the performances of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts plunged in the recently announced SSLC results in the state, several social media users blamed communally pushed politics and issues in the region for the poor performance of the districts.
Udupi and Dakshina Kannada both would usually find place in top tier slots of the list of districts of the state in the SSLC examination, and the districts were known as intellectually advanced.
The two districts were recently eclipsed by the controversial Hijab row and the social and political unrest that followed. Hassan and Chikkaballapur however replaced Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts at the top of the chart.
Dakshina Kannada plunged to an unusual 20th position while Udupi managed to secure 13th place, a relatively unusual spot for the coastal district.
Attributing the backward trend to the communal politics in schools and colleges, several social media users expressed their outrage over the recent controversies citing the plunge as a repercussion of the same.
“Once a region of intelligent people, has now neglected education in the name of religion. Udupi district which would be at the top two in the list always has come down to 13th in the state. Salute to this achievement. Come, my Hindu student friends, let us fight against Hijab. Let us fight for our religion. Let education go to hell. We are used to be the slaves…Jai Shriram”, said Gajusanketh P Rao in a Facebook post.
Further, in another social media post, Nishanth Mandagadde said that, “Earlier, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Chikkamagaluru would be at the top of the results list. Now we see them in the centre. Religious intoxication among students is gradually snatching their future away. If this continues, we may have to look for the districts from the bottom of the list in the coming years. Shivamogga has already settled at the bottom.”
Several social media users have expressed their concerns over bringing communal politics into education while commenting on the transition of the two intelligent districts into regions of communal politics.

Bhatkal: The Karnataka unit of the All India Ideal Teachers Association (AIITA) has welcomed the Karnataka government’s decision to strictly ban school children from dancing to obscene songs during educational and cultural programmes in government, aided, and private schools across the state.
AIITA Karnataka State President M. R. Manvi congratulated the government for taking what he termed an important step to preserve the sanctity of education.
“Such decisions to safeguard the dignity of school children and uphold the values of education are the need of the hour. This rule should not be limited to government schools alone but must be strictly implemented in all private educational institutions as well,” he said.
He further urged the government to address other concerns within school programmes.
“The government should not only prohibit obscene dances in the name of school anniversaries, but also ensure that plays and dialogues that incite religious hatred are avoided. Schools should be centres of harmony, not platforms for spreading hatred,” he added.
According to a recent circular issued by the Department of School Education and Literacy, obscene dances are adversely affecting the mental health and moral values of students.
In this regard, schools have been advised to use songs that promote nationalism, positive thinking, the greatness of Kannada culture, and value-based traditions instead of inappropriate content during programmes.
The circular also emphasises that students should be dressed in decent attire.
AIITA also backed the department’s warning that disciplinary action would be taken against head teachers if such guidelines are violated. The association has further demanded that district Deputy Directors of Public Instruction strictly monitor the implementation of these rules.
