Udupi: Imminent Thinker and Author Shiv Sundar who graced as the Chief Guest of Abdussalam Puthige’s “Palestine nalli nadeyuttiruvudenu?” (What is going on in Palestine) book release event here at Don Bosco hall on Saturday, speaking about the unjust aggression on Gaza by Israel , opined that only civic power could save this world.

“There is a global boycott movement against the unjust occupation of Israel over the Gaza strip. This is the only hope left before us. Today the opinion of the people from around the world is leaning in favor of justice. Even in the case of India, if people do not fight for justice, we all will become victims of the right wing,” Sundar said during his address at the launch event of Abdussalam Puthige’s “Palestine nalli nadeyuttiruvudenu?” book in collaboration with the NGO Shahabalve.

Sundar, calling Israel’s attack as Inhumane and barbaric, mentioned that, “ The ongoing issues in Israel and Gaza cannot be termed as a war. Besides, it is an unfair attack on the 23 lakh population of Gaza who have been deprived of food, water, and medical facilities for the past 20 years. At present, 45 bombs are being dropped, destroying 12 buildings every hour. A child dies every 10 minutes. Therefore, the current happening there now is inhumane and barbaric.”

“The illegal aggression by Israel is aiding the growth of Hindu Hatred politics in India. This unlawful aggression is being used to supplement and fuel the unfair and genocidal politics taking place within India. Therefore, if India does not properly take a stand for justice, victory of injustice will thrive across the globe,” he said, expressing fear over the surge of genocidal politics in India.

“The happenings in Israel are an unfair assault on justice. If the awareness of justice is not stimulated within India, then we all will have to become the victims of globalisation of injustice. Whatever is being done in Israel is in close resemblance to Indian politics of turning myths into history and building the present and future based on that history.”
“ Israel’s ultimate goal is to drive the entire 23 lakh population of the Gaza strip, from the north to south initially, finally pushing to Egypt. So that Israel can take control of the entire Gaza. Hence this is a disaster not a war, a disaster larger than what happened in 1948 is taking place now.” He condemned the world’s silence stating that, “ the world is tolerating this in silence.”

Rev. Father William Martis, who released the book, speaking at the event stated that Israel is said to be the land given to the Jews in the Bible. But everyone needs to know that the Bible is not a historical book. It is a book of confidence. Therefore, he said that it is wrong to claim responsibility for Israel on the basis of the Bible.

Critic Mushtaq Hennabailu introduced the book to those in attendance. Sahabalve’s co-ordinator Prof. K. Phaniraj presided over the event. Balakrishna Shetty, member of Sahabalve Zilla Samiti, welcomed and gave an introductory speech. Dasamsa Ambedkar Wada Udupi District Chief Convenor Sundar Master delivered the vote of thanks. Yaseen Kodibengre narrated the program.

Politics of unjust in Israel

Alleging unfair politics surrounding the Israel-Gaza tensions Sundar asserts, “ While, the world is supplying arms and is providing financial support to the war-torn Ukraine, which has been attacked by Russia. In Israel-Gaza’s case they are supplying arms to Israel who is carrying out attacks, invading Gaza.”

He also expressed discontent over Israel becoming a role model for all right-wing countries today. “ by providing machinery to suppress the nonviolent struggles. Which is the reason why the Israeli PM visited India for the first time when the right-wing was in power in 2003, similarly Prime Minister Modi was the first Indian PM to visit Israel after he came to power. All right-wing countries have taken Israel as an example to suppress their dissent.”

Nanded (PTI): A farmer, his wife and their two sons were found dead in two different locations in Maharashtra’s Nanded district on Thursday morning, in what police suspect to be a mass suicide, an official said.

Around 8 am, the bodies of Ramesh Sonaji Lakhe (51) and his wife Radhabai Lakhe (45) were discovered on a cot in their home at Jawala Murar village in Mudkhed tehsil, he said.

The bodies of their sons, Umesh (25) and Bajrang (23), were subsequently found on nearby railway lines. It appears they jumped in front of a speeding train, the official said.

Police inspector Dattatray Manthale told reporters, “The parents were found dead inside their home, while the sons took their lives on the railway tracks. We have asked a Forensic Science Laboratory team to collect evidence. The truth will come out only after a thorough technical investigation and autopsy.”

While the nature of their death appears to be part of a suicide pact, police said the exact circumstances remain unclear.

The family belonged to the small-scale farming community, but it is not yet confirmed if financial distress or a domestic crisis triggered the extreme step, the official said.

Neighbours described the Lakhes as a hardworking family who struggled against the odds of small-land farming to sustain themselves.

The Nanded rural police are recording statements of relatives and checking for notes or final messages left by the family.
