Mangaluru: St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), Mangaluru, celebrated “Go for Gold-2020”, it’s Annual Athletic Meet at the College Ground on Thursday, 12 March 2020 at 9:00 AM.
Pushparaja Hegde P, Assistant General Manager, Syndicate Bank & International Weight Lifter was the Chief Guest on the occasion and inaugurated the event by hoisting the flag. Rev. Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, Director of SJEC, Rev. Fr Rohith D’Costa & Rev. Fr Alwyn Richard D’Souza, Assistant Directors of SJEC, Dr Rio D’Souza, Principal of SJEC, Mr Ajithanjaya Kumar MK, Chairperson of Sports & Community Group, Mr Nitheesh D Nayak, Convener, Ms Rachana Crasta, Sports Advisor and Ms Veneesha V Rodrigues, Assistant Physical Education Director, were present.
A colorful march fast by students was presented after which the hoisting of the flag by the dignitaries took place. As a symbolic gesture, students who participated in National Level Sports events were handed over the burning torch by the guest post which the Chief Guest declared the meet open.
Aren Joy Fernandes of I Year Electronics & Communication Engineering, Venilla Manikanta of III Year Civil Engineering, Thejas H of II Year MCA and A Dhanush of III Year Mechanical Engineering and Melitta Sneha Lewis of IV year Computer Science and Engineering were felicitated by the dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering Pushparaja said that while sport is all about fun and enthusiasm, one should never compromise on the aspect of the discipline. He called upon the students to embrace discipline as a culture of life which will go a long way in succeeding in any sphere of life. He also stressed on the importance of health wherein he urged the students to inculcate good hygiene and focus on doing any form of physical exercise for at least an hour a day.
The formal program concluded with vote of thanks by Nitheesh Nayak. Salma Shabnam and Sadhika Shetty compered the inaugural event.
The inaugural was followed by a series of Athletic Events throughout the day that witnessed the active participation of both students as well as staff. The meet culminated with Valedictory involving prize distribution. Dr Prakash Pinto, Professor and Dean of MBA Department, was the Chief Guest at the Valedictory.

Mumbai (PTI): Ryan Rickelton's whirlwind unbeaten ton was overshadowed by Heinrich Klaasen's unbeaten 65 as Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Mumbai Indians by six wickets in an IPL match here on Wednesday.
Chasing an imposing 244-run target, Travis Head (76 off 30) and Abhishek Sharma (45 off 24) shared 129 runs for the opening wicket to set the platform for SRH.
Klaasen (65 not out off 30 balls) then displayed his all-round hitting abilities to guide SRH home with the help of Nitish Kumar Reddy (21) and Salil Arora (30 not out off 10) in 18.4 overs.
Earlier, Rickelton's knock powered MI to 243 for five.
MI rode on a 93-run stand between Rickelton (123 not out off 55 balls) and Will Jacks (46 off 22) in 7.1 overs for the opening stand to power the side.
MI skipper Hardik Pandya scored a valuable 31 off 15 balls before being dismissed.
Praful Hinge (2/54), Eshan Malinga (1/29), Sakib Hasan (1/39) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (1/31) were the wicket-takers for SRH.
