Mangaluru: In another incident of moral policing that occurred in the outskirts of the city at Surathkal, a gang of six accused miscreants assaulted two students on Monday night. The police who conducted an inquiry have arrested the six accused, it is learned. 

The arrested have been identified as Prahlad, Prashant, Guruprasad, Prathish Acharya, Bharath Shetty, and Sukesh, members of Sangh Parivar, and residents of Surathkal – Mukka vicinity. 

Reportedly, a resident of Surathkal Mukka, Muhammed Yasin (20), a BSc student at the Mukka Srinivas College had accepted the request of a female fellow college mate to give her a ride home on his bike. Yasin was enroute to drop her close to her residence near the Kalyani City Pearl Apartment around 10 pm on Monday when Sangh Parivar members who were following the students stopped the bike near the apartment and verbally abused the female students using derogatory speech saying, “Do you have to go with a Muslim? Don’t you get Hindus?”, and later physically assaulted both students. 

The complaint recorded by the victims at the Surathkal police station reveals that the accused have also raised their hands on the female student by pushing and shoving her and issuing threats to her life. The police who registered a case according to the complaint have arrested the accused six and are further investigating the matter.

Mumbai: An assistant commissioner of police was arrested by Worli Police in Central Mumbai under charge of flashing his private parts before a nine-year-old girl.

The arrested officer is reportedly under judicial custody, at present, according to a report by The Times of India.

The incident occurred in a garden on April 23, a police officer has said, adding that they arrested the ACP soon after the complaint was filed. So far, only one party has filed a complaint against the senior officer, the source has informed.

The senior officer has been charged with molestation and under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the police officer said.

Further investigation of the case is underway.
