Bantwal: In an incident that reportedly occurred on Friday, a man killed his younger brother on the suspicion that he was having an affair with his wife in Taluk’s Bondala Shanthigudde at Panemangaluru. 

The victim has been identified as Sunder (30), a resident of Shanthigudde. The accused has been identified as his elder brother Ravi, who has gone into hiding after the crime, the police informed. 

The murdered youngster was reportedly unmarried and was staying alone at his residence. His older brother Ravi’s house was nearby and Ravi’s wife used to provide her brother-in-law with food from their house, it is learned. 

Ravi used to constantly pick fights with his younger brother suspecting that the latter was having an illegitimate affair with his wife. 

Similarly on Friday night, the brothers had fought and Sunder’s screams had been heard in the neighborhood. Hearing the scream, the eldest brother of the duo, Ramesh, who lived in the same area visited their house and saw that Ravi had hit Sunder’s head with an iron rod and the latter was lying in a pool of blood. 

The victim breathed his last during the course of treatment, the complaint registered with the police reveals.

The accused Ravi reportedly escaped after the incident and went into hiding. Bantwal City Police visited the site and conducted an inquiry and are further investigating the case.

Mumbai (PTI): Police have arrested a man and seized over 500 grams of heroin worth Rs 2.54 crore in the illicit market from him in Mumbai, officials said on Friday.

The police's Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) made the drug seizure in Santacruz in the western suburbs. The operation was conducted by the Kandivali unit of the ANC on Thursday as part of a special crackdown against drug trafficking in the area, they said.

Acting on specific inputs, an ANC team conducted a raid in Santacruz (East) and intercepted a man. During a search, the team recovered 508 grams of high-grade heroin from his possession, an official said.

The seized contraband, a highly addictive, opioid drug derived from morphine, is estimated to be worth Rs 2.54 crore in the international market, he informed.

Following the seizure, a case was registered against the man under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and he was formally placed under arrest in the early hours of Friday.

The police are currently investigating the source of the drug and trying to identify the intended recipients of the consignment, he said.
