Udupi, Jan 18: Suspicion around the tragedy of Suvarna Thribuja boat which disappeared around 34 days ago, is developing gradually. The authorities have been searching under the deep sea in around 25-30 nautical miles using Sonar equipment of the Navy.
The boat which set out for deep sea fishing on December 13, disappeared and disconnected on December 15 night along with seven fishermen. A case was registered at Malpe police station on December 22 and the police have taken up investigation in two dimensions.
Police have been investigating whether a tragedy struck the boat or it was abducted. Total six police teams were formed to investigate the incident and these teams have conducted investigation in Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra and Kerala.
Information was passed on to the concerned officers from Kochi to Gujarat. In each police teams, two or three fishermen were included while investigating the incident and searched for the boat in the places where fishermen suspected.
But so far, no information on the whereabouts of the boat or fishermen was available. In view of this, all police teams returned to Udupi.
Clue from Navy ships
Meanwhile, the Navy has found that the bottom part of one of its ships which sailed from Maharashtra to Karwar on December 15, was damaged and it was suspected that the ship might have knocked by an engine or parts of a boat which sunk in the sea. After this, the Navy officials have sent a message to Maharashtra coast guard on possible accident of boat in the sea and sought information.
To justify this suspicion, Maharashtra fishermen found two plastic crates, written as ST (Suvarna Tribhuja) on them, were floating in the sea on December 15. On December 18, another box found at Malvan in Goa.
Now, based on the damage caused to the Navy ship, searching teams have been searching for the boat suspecting that it might have sunk in the sea, for which highly modern technology Sonar is being used and since January 12, searching has been conducting in the sea for the boat, sources said.
The delay in registering the complaint also has become an obstacle for conducting the search operation. Though the boat was disappeared on December 15, the case was registered on December 22 due to which the information was given to the police station, coast guard and the Navy very late, it is said.
Technical snag in boat?
The Suvarna Tribhuja boat which sets out for deep sea fishing along with six other boats on December 13, returned to Malpe port half way due to technical snag in the boat.
Later, after repair, the boat again sets out for fishing and sailed ahead of other six boats. Because of the continuous travel, the radiator of the boat might have overheated and met with accident, it is suspected.

Christmas decorations vandalised by VHP activists at school in Nalbari; Tension in area
Nalbari: Tension prevailed in the Panigaon area of Nalbari district on December 24 after members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal allegedly entered the premises of St Mary’s School and vandalised materials prepared for Christmas celebrations.
According to local sources, activists of the VHP and Bajrang Dal entered the school campus ahead of Christmas and raised slogans inside the premises. It is alleged that Christmas-related decorations and materials kept within the school compound were damaged and set on fire.
Eyewitnesses said that members of the Bajrang Dal were the first to enter the campus, during which they allegedly raised slogans such as “Jai Shri Ram,” “Jai Hindu Rashtra,” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai,” and burnt items prepared for Christmas celebrations. The incident created panic among local residents and led to concerns over law and order in the area. No injuries have been reported so far.
The incident comes amid reports of similar acts in Nalbari town in recent days, where Christmas decorations displayed at several commercial establishments were allegedly set on fire.
Reacting to the incident, fact-checker Mohammed Zubair said on social media that VHP and Bajrang Dal activists entered St Mary’s School on Christmas Eve, raised slogans and destroyed Christmas decorations. His post drew attention to the incident and sparked wider discussion online.
Police have not yet issued an official statement on the incident. Further details are awaited.
