A tragic accident occurred on National Highway 66 at Talur near Karwar on Saturday night, resulting in the loss of a 32-year-old man's life while seriously injuring his pillon rider friend. The unfortunate incident unfolded when the two friends were riding a motorcycle and had to swerve suddenly to avoid colliding with a wild animal that unexpectedly appeared on the road.

The deceased motorcycle rider has been identified as Mohammed Samian Gangavali, a resident near Shifa Cross in Bhatkal. His injured friend is Tanveer Ahmed.

The friends were on a journey from Bhatkal to Karwar, traveling along NH 66, at approximately 11:30 pm on Saturday when an unexpected encounter with a wild animal forced Gangavali to make a split-second decision to avoid hitting the creature. In his effort to evade the animal, he lost control of the motorcycle, causing both riders to fall onto the road.

Both Gangavali and Ahmed sustained severe head injuries in the fall. Bystanders and fellow road users quickly rushed to their aid and transported them to a nearby hospital. Tragically, despite medical attention, Gangavali's injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead.

Jaipur (PTI): Former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday expressed concern over the reported attacks and disruptions in prayer gatherings of the Christian community in different parts of the country, saying such incidents were "worrying and condemnable".

In a post on X, Gehlot said that while the Prime Minister Narendra Modi was visiting a church and giving a message of peace and harmony, news of attacks on members of the Christian community from various regions reflected a serious contradiction.

"Symbolic gestures would not be enough, and strict legal action was required against those spreading hatred," the senior Congress leader said.

He added that Indian culture has always upheld the spirit of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam", where every citizen has full freedom to practise their faith.

Gehlot urged the Centre and state governments to uphold the rule of law and ensure that no citizen is forced to celebrate their festival under fear.
