Belthangady: In a dramatic turn of events, two men narrowly escaped drowning after being swept away by strong river currents while attempting to cross a river on their two-wheeler near Koodujala in Hittilapela, Savanalu village, on Sunday.
The rider has been identified as Satish, son of Kariya Malekudiya, a resident of Pela in Hittilapela. The pillion rider was Sanjeeva Poojary, a resident of Sulyodi.
According to sources, the duo was on their way to work when the incident occurred. They attempted to ride across a waterlogged section of the river at Koodujala, which connects Hittilapela and Savanalu village. However, the force of the water proved too strong and they, along with their vehicle, were washed away.
Fortunately, a large rock near the riverbank blocked the vehicle midway. In a stroke of luck, both men managed to grab a rope that was hanging nearby and pulled themselves to safety.
